Why choose an overwintered F1 Buckfast nuc?
A nuc is a small starter colony that you transfer into a compatible full-size hive as it develops. An overwintered nuc was established in the previous season and has come through winter as a colony. A summer nuc is established during the current season and becomes available later.
F1 means the first generation from selected breeding stock. We choose Buckfast lines for their breeding aims: calm temperament, good honey production and a lower tendency to swarm. These are living colonies, so temperament, production and swarming also depend on weather, forage and management; no bees are guaranteed never to swarm.
Delivery and getting ready
The £350 total includes Royal Mail Special Delivery within Great Britain. Alternatively, choose Collection at the same £350 price; we will arrange a suitable date with you. There is no additional nuc delivery charge. Choose your preference when reserving; we will agree the date once your colony is ready. Next-day delivery refers to the service after dispatch, not the day after paying the deposit. Prepare a suitable apiary site and a compatible British National hive before arrival. If you are new to beekeeping, a local association or mentor can help you get started.
On arrival, place the nuc securely in its intended apiary position before opening the entrance. Allow the bees to settle, and transfer the frames into your prepared hive in the same order when conditions are suitable.
